Ten months ago, in May 2013, I had the opportunity to Keynote at the University of Houston – Victoria – Sugar Land MBA Conference. By now, I am sure last years winners are on their way to accomplishing great things and are putting to use their excellent MBA Conference experience along with the wonderful education they received from the University of Houston – Victoria.
It was great fun talking to such an outstanding group of MBA graduating students and future business leaders and entrepreneurs. UHV was gracious enough to make me a cool poster and give me a beautiful Appreciation Award for being part of the Willis Group “Distinguished Speaker” Series. In the photo I am seen with Dr. Xavia Garza-Gomez and Dr. Farhang Niroomand, Dean of University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration. Both are excellent educators. There were some outstanding sponsors, including the SBA, Bloomberg BusinessWeek and Wells Fargo Advisors, to name a few. The poster I was given states Richard Tyler International, Inc.® is “One of the top Training and Consulting firms in the world” and for that recognition I am grateful.
On May 3, 2014 a whole new group of students will test their talents and presentation skills to panels of judges consisting of faculty, alumni, and local business people. To quote the University of Houston – Victoria, “The MBA Case Conference is the culmination of the Strategic MBA program. Students in the Strategic Management course (MGMT 6359) team up to compete in a case competition. Using all the knowledge, tools, and analytical skills they have learned in their finance, operations, marketing, accounting, economics, and management courses students work all semester long to review and assess a firm’s strengths and weaknesses and to identify opportunities and threats. Based on their analyses, students then offer strategic and insightful recommendations. In past semesters students have presented their analyses and recommendations for companies such as Apple, Walmart, PetSmart, Nucor Steel and Compaq. Students typically comment that the case competition is one of the most challenging, yet most rewarding and valuable experiences of the MBA program. The confidence and teamwork skills they gain from this “real life” exercise is invaluable and is a springboard to future success!”
