This January, 25 teams with 45 contestants were notified they won a prized slot in the 2014 HCC – Newspring Business Plan Competition! Forty teams in all had applied for one of 25 available spots. January 21st was the competition application deadline.
The competition was kicked off February 4 with the first of five training sessions. All applicants are either students of HCC’s Small Business Management class or graduates of the HCC Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.
Each of the 26 teams chosen have from one to five team members. Each team will be mentored by two “Real World” Business Advisers. The mentoring will take place from February through April as they refine and polish plans to start or grow their businesses.
The 99 contestants and their Business Advisers meet one-on-one and also benefit from five training sessions held by Newspring’s master trainers, Jack Barry, Richard Tyler and Robert Westheimer. Training sessions began on February 4th and continue through March 25. Written plans are due April 3. Finalists will do an oral presentation to Panel of Judges on April 24 and prize money will be awarded on April 28.
